CAP Month Grant Awards
April is Child Abuse Prevention month, and is quickly approaching. We have received numerous grants for great community prevention initiatives to be done again this year. When communities finalize their plans we will be posting their activities and dates on our website.
Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota will be available to communities to assist in their project development and implementation as needed. Our emphasis again this year is on neglect and the significant impact it has on children. As well, many communities have included local issues of concern to be addressed by their projects.
Thank you to all of the volunteers and partners working to make a difference for our children. We are very excited and look forward to another successful campaign year!
Head Start Initiatives
PCAND is partnering with Head Start agencies across the state to enhance the prevention resources available to Early Childhood Professionals and families. This effort will reach approximately 3,500 children and their families enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The goal of this project is to ensure that each ND HS/EHS program will have a detailed abuse prevention plan that is responsive to the unique challenges of each community. Dawn Williams, Executive Director of the ND Head Start Association, will provide technical assistance to HS agencies as they plan and implement their work.
Thanks to the North Dakota Head Start State Collaboration Office/Department of Human Services for their support of PCAND.
Home Visitation

For the past year, Head Start of North Dakota, the Nurse Family Partnerships, Healthy Families, adn PCAND have worked together to increase awareness of the importance of home visits for young children and their families. One result of these efforts was the "At Home in North Dakota" training conference held in October 2011. Over 140 professionals attended the sessions and plans for a Fall 2012 Conference are underway!
